Halfmoon Bay Community Development Forum

The HBCA is very pleased to announce that the HBCA Board has just approved the set-up of a new Halfmoon Bay Community Development Forum (CDF).  The need for an organized community group became evident as residents have struggled over the last year to get information, and have their voices heard, on some significant development proposals and land use activities in our community.  The Forum will be at ‘arm’s length’ from the HBCA and will focus on issues that impact on or are of interest to a neighbourhood or the wider Halfmoon Bay community (i.e. not on highly localized issues).  Specifically, it will:

  • Provide a space for the Halfmoon Bay community to engage on the spirit and intent of the Official Community Plan (OCP),
  • Act as a focal point for the Halfmoon Bay community on significant issues related to land use and the development of the community. This includes collecting and sharing information about selected issues and related processes, and facilitating community engagement, and
  • Liaise with the Sunshine Coast Regional District (SCRD), Halfmoon Bay Advisory Planning Commission (APC), and other levels of government and community groups on significant matters relating to community development.

The first step is to form the CDF Organizing Committee.  If you are interested in being on the Committee and have lived in Halfmoon Bay for at least one year, please read the CDF terms of reference to further understand the desired representation of the Committee and how the membership will be selected. Please let us know of your interest by Friday, August 12th at cdf@halfmoon-bay.ca.  We are aiming to form the Committee and have the first meeting in early September (ambitious perhaps, but we’ll try!)
