Community Development Forum Update April 2025

The Halfmoon Bay Community Association’s Community Development Forum, is an arm’s length group under the HBCA, convenes monthly, deliberating on land use issues that affect our community (see their 2024 annual report for an overview). Key topics include advocating for bylaws to better direct the location of new developments while protecting sensitive ecosystems, and flagging alleged infractions by large on-going development activities. 

A major focus of the Forum for the next few years will be the SCRD’s update of the seven rural Official Community Plans (including the OCP for Halfmoon Bay), which is ongoing up to December 2027. The SCRD will be organizing three public consultations during this period, with the first one being from June until September 2025. You can sign up for email updates from the SCRD on this site. The Forum has developed an Issue Brief with five priority areas aimed at stimulating discussion in the Halfmoon Bay community – please take a look and get ready to engage in the process, which will determine the plan for our community and the lower Sunshine Coast for the years to come!
