Coopers Green Hall replacement is One Step Closer!

On behalf of the Board of the Halfmoon Bay Community Association (HBCA) we welcome the decision made at the May 26 meeting of the SCRD Board to go ahead with the Coopers Green Hall replacement project. We are excited at the prospect of construction beginning in early 2023.

This project, eight years in the making, is sorely needed to provide a focus for community life in Halfmoon Bay where other options do not currently exist.
The new Hall will provide an adaptable venue for a variety of events such as meetings, classes, concerts, and family celebrations. The commercial kitchen will offer catered events, cooking classes, and a venue for concession style service by local vendors.

We share the concerns and recognize the challenges of constructing a Hall in the present climate of escalating costs. While current projections show a 40% increase since 2018; the tendering process will be reflective of the true costs and may also result in the identification of cost-saving measures.

The HBCA has raised close to $400,000 through community fundraising; building on the momentum of this go-ahead, we can work on our fundraising towards construction costs, and focus on grants and fundraising for furniture, fixtures, and equipment.

Since last fall, the HBCA and SCRD have been working on an agreement under which the HBCA will manage the Hall operation on behalf of the SCRD. This model will bring the use and benefit of the new Coopers Green Hall right into the community of Halfmoon Bay, following the guiding principles of affordability, accessibility, sustainability, and balance.

The HBCA, and many community members, are optimistic about the progress of the new hall from construction to operation, and all of the benefits to Halfmoon Bay residents, and visitors, that will ensue.
